I feel in love with Michelle from our very first point of contact. The more I’ve gotten to know her over the past year or so the more I’ve gotten to know the specific qualities she possesses that make her such a wonderful person. Warm, considerate, fun, caring, stylish (check out the bow on that wedding dress!) and a lover of food (perhaps even on my level?) are all the qualities that make me like her more and more each time we interact.
I first met Barry at their black tie engagement session in D.C. That day was SO much fun and I’ve been excitedly anticipating their winter 2016 Morais Vineyards wedding ever since.
Chilly and a bit windy, but with some glorious sunshine all day, Barry and Michelle’s wedding was flawlessly executed from start to finish thanks to Jeanette’s (of EVOKE D.C.) planning. I showed up at Michelle’s childhood home in Fairfax for some getting ready photos and received the warmest welcome from her mom who quickly became one of my favorite people that day. She is just as considerate and sweet as Michelle and made me feel so at home and welcome the entire day.
Michelle and Barry held their ceremony at St. Veronica’s followed by a STUNNING black and gold reception at Morais Vineyards. Michelle’s uncle, a creative director in the Philippines, put together the amazing bouquets and centerpieces at the venue that really highlighted the high ceilings and dramatic windows. We got there just in time to capture the last of golden hour lighting…but man, oh man was it COLD and windy! Michelle, Barry and their entire bridal party were such troopers. They were able to hold it together for a solid 5 minutes so we could get some outdoor portraits in natural light.
Anyone who follows my work knows I love shooting in natural light more than anything but one of my favorite things about winter weddings is they afford me and my couples more opportunity to play with off camera lighting in indoor settings. Morais Vineyards was the perfect venue for this! We were able to spend more time down in the vineyard’s wine cellar/barrel room after the sun went down (in the warmth!!!!) and get some dramatic and romantic portraits. I joked with Michelle and Barry that some of them were so sultry I didn’t think I could post them on my blog!
The rest of the night was filled with one of the most electric and energetic parties I’ve been to…and lots of delicious food (they served mini sliders and chicken and waffles as a midnight snack after a dessert bar!). To sum up who Barry and Michelle are as a couple, I’ll leave you with this: As I was heading out for the night Michelle begged me to stay at the reception longer just to have a glass of wine, eat some food and have a good time. She insisted I relax a bit and walked me to my stored away camera bag so I would actually put my gear down and come join the party! Her and Barry are really just the kindest of souls and I’m so happy to have met them and become friends with them during their season of engagement. Congratulations again Barry and Michelle! I”m so excited to see where life and marriage take you!
