From the first few minutes of hanging out with Talya and Steve at a booth in the back of a Chipotle I knew I was going to love hanging out with them and photographing their wedding.
Talya was born and raised in South Africa and she and Steve fell in love after she moved here to pursue more job opportunities and be closer to her mom. I was totally enraptured hearing her talk about life in South Africa and her journey to the U.S. as well as how her and Steve’s relationship has evolved over the years. It’s amazing how supportive they are of each other.
For their engagement session we decided to take advantage of some gorgeous summer evening light and headed to Manassas Battlefield for portraits. I always forget how much I love shooting at this location until I’m actually there and get re-excited over the tall beautiful grasses, stone house backdrop, creeks and streams and bridges. Talya had found an awesome old stone bridge on a walk with her dad where we took some photos in addition to a gnarled old tree and tall grass fields. Talya also brought along two ginormo balloons as props but we encountered some helium issues so they didn’t “float” quite as nicely as we’d hoped they would! Consequently we had some pretty droopy sad looking balloons but the resulting laughs and giggle from trying to get them to ‘fly’ made it worth it.
I cannot wait for this beautiful couple’s wedding at the Stone Manor Country Club later this year!
