I had been eagerly awaiting Tessa and Tom’s wedding probably as much as they had! We first met about a year and a half ago in a Peet’s coffee shop and bonded over a 2.5 hour + conversation about everything under the sun! They quickly became two of my favorites and I’ve loved getting to know them over the course of their engagement.
Their beautiful spring wedding, flawlessly executed by Tiffany from Simply Breathe Events, brought record high temperatures of 90+ degrees….but you never would have known it! These two – and their entire bridal party and families – were in such high spirits and enthusiastic good moods I didn’t hear a single gripe about the heat all day long. We started the wedding day off at the gorgeous bridal suite at the Westin in Georgetown. After that we whisked across town to the Holy Rosary Church in Capitol Hill, which is quickly becoming one of my new favorite D.C. wedding venues. Though small, the church is absolutely gorgeous and its windows and white wall make it a joy to photograph!
After a beautiful ceremony we headed to the Capitol building for bride and groom and bridal party portraits. It wasn’t quite golden hour yet but luckily we had a great cloud covering that brought some relief from the hot sun as well as a natural light diffuser that gave us amazing, even light for almost our entire portrait time. It was like God himself planned it out for them!
Tessa and Tom are such a joy to photograph. Their joyful personalities and laughter is infectious and Tom has a special way of getting Tessa to burst out into genuine laughter at the drop of a hat.
Post Capitol hill photos we returned to the Westin for a cocktail hour on their patio and a reception with an awesome band. stunning cake from Fluffy Thoughts and beautiful toasts and speeches honoring Tom and Tessa. One of my favorite parts of the reception was their first dance – sung by Tessa’s cousin who has an incredible voice! My second favorite part was the cookie table with over 2,000 cookies baked by Tessa’s family to honor a long standing family tradition!
Tessa and Tom – I am so incredibly happy for you guys and have loved getting to know you over the past year and a half. I hope you have a blast in Croatia and I can’t wait to share more photos!
